At the intersection of art, technology and innovation: spark! Mesa’s Festival of Creativity

Now in its 4th year, spark! Mesa’s Festival of Creativity in March will feature animal themes, hands-on creative activities and endless unique experiences to satisfy the child-like wonder in all of us. Headlining the festival will be the Austin Bike Zoo, an imaginative collaboration between bike-builders, puppet-makers, and performers. Animals from the Bike Zoo menagerie that will make an appearance at the festival include a giant rideable rattlesnake bike that measures 80 feet in length, many butterflies, the smallest of which are 10 feet tall and the largest 18 feet tall, and animated bat and owl bikes, both the same grand scale as the rest of Austin Bike Zoo’s work.

Projects that combine research, interaction and live performance will invade areas of campus and invite exploration by curious minds. The Wonder Dome by Dan Fine, a cross-university research project between Arizona State University and The Ohio State University will offer a state-of-the-art, touring, 360-degree immersive dome with an interactive system for live performance; The Amyloid Project, a new artwork and performance by urbanSTEW, will bring the complex protein research of Arizona State University Physics Professor Dr. Vaiana to life; and TubberKnockers by Doug Boyd, will offer a musical playground that allows anyone to get involved in music-making.

These are just a handful of the features of the spark! festival. Stay tuned as more are revealed, and for a sneak peak of the latest addition to the festival, spark! After Dark. More information about the free festival can be found here!
